Meet Miss “Maya Angelou” of Hero Assistance Dogs, Inc.

Rebecca and Maya Maya

Let us introduce Miss Maya. Academy Of Canines and our family are proud to support Hero Assistance Dogs, Inc. a non-profit organization who’s mission is to raise, train, and place assistance/service dogs for Florida’s disabled and disabled Veterans at no cost to the disabled person. HEROES is run solely at this time by volunteers and donations.

Maya is one of Heroes pups in training and one day will carry the proud job of helping a disabled person with their everyday life and helping them accomplish tasks that due to their disabilities, prevents them from doing without the help of others. Maya is being trained to pick items up, turn on and off light switches, open and close doors and cabinets, hold a door, and many other important tasks that can be extremely important to a person that is physically unable to manage it themselves.

Rebecca and her family, along with Academy Of Canines are proud to announce that we will be volunteer co-raising Maya with Diane White, founder of  HEROES located in Citrus County Florida. Maya will be joining us on daily outings, trips to the Veteran’s Hospital, reading to children in schools with HEROES literacy program “Nellie’s Buddies”, and many other exciting places that will help in her training.

We would also like to add a special Thank You to the SW Ocala Lions Club who is Maya’s sponsor. Raising and training an assistance dog is very expensive and there are many hours of hard work that go into it. Sponsors like the SW Ocala Lions Club make training these wonderful dogs with jobs possible.
